Shanghai, 19 May 2008 – The Ascott Group (Ascott) was conferred the inaugural ‘China’s Most Favourite Serviced Residence Brand’ award at the ‘5th Golden-Pillow Award of China Hotels’ held in Sheshan, Shanghai last Friday.

The ‘Golden-Pillow Award of China Hotels’ was launched in 2004 and was presented by 21st Century Business Herald newspaper and Business Travel magazine.  This is the first time the organisers added a category to recognise the rising popularity of serviced residence among business travellers in China.

Mr Richard Ong, The Ascott Group’s Senior Vice President for China Operations said: “Ascott is extremely happy and honoured to be the first management group to receive Golden Pillow’s most popular serviced residence brand award. We would like to thank the judging committee, all the mystery judges and everyone who voted for Ascott.”

This annual award honours the most outstanding performers in China’s hotel industry. Each year, the panel of judges, comprising business leaders, industry experts, hotel investors and journalists, will choose the best in the hospitality industry by conducting mystery visit and polls.

Mr Chen Dong Yang, Executive Chief Editor of 21st Century News Group, said: “We received applications from more than 400 hotels. This year's judging committee was made up of 60 professionals, which was a much larger team than previous years. We had more than 100 mystery judges, and received more than 5 million votes online.”

The ‘Golden-Pillow Award of China Hotels’ is the fifth award Ascott has won in China this year. Ascott was voted the ‘Best Serviced Residence Operator in China’ by readers of TTG in April. The Group was also awarded ‘The Best International Hotel Management Group of China’ (中国最佳国际酒店管理集团) at the 2007 China Hotel Starlight Awards (中国酒店星光奖) in March. The Group’s Ascott Beijing and Ascott Shanghai Pudong serviced residences also won ‘The Best International Apartment Type Hotel of China’ (中国最佳国际公寓酒店).

There were a total of 70 awards in this year's ‘Golden-Pillow Award of China Hotels’. Apart from ‘China’s Most Favourite Serviced Residence Brand’, the main awards included the ‘Top Ten Business Hotels in China’, ‘Top Ten Popular Resorts in China’ and ‘Best New Hotel in China’. The secondary awards included ‘Most Luxurious Hotel in China’ and ‘Best Design Hotel in China’.
