Ascott Residents And Employees Open Their Hearts To Chinese Children In Need

China, August 20, 2004 - For many who live in the cities, the millions of people living in poverty in rural China seem like a distant reality. Today, Ascott International Management, China hopes to bridge that gap with its "We Care For Our Children" 2004/2005 Charity Program, launched together with World Vision China, a non-profit development and relief agency whose mission is to improve the future of poverty stricken children and families in China. This program gives rural children a brighter future and the residents and employees of Ascott's properties a chance to make a difference in the lives of children living in economically difficult circumstances.

During the program's launch party in Shanghai, the Country General Manager of Ascott in China, Mr Loh Jen Yuh, said: "At the Ascott Group, we take pride in providing service from the heart, and we are ready to go the extra mile for our guests. This is Ascott's "Heartware". Now we are taking it further, we shall bring "Heartware" to the needy children and make a difference in their lives."

This year-long program consists of a series of projects which will focus on helping the community of Sanzhi Yang Township in Du An County, Guangxi Province. The township is located in a mountainous subtropical region in the south western part of China. Funds raised through this programme will provide the children of Du An County with immunization treatments, nutrition programs, medical equipment and improvements to their school. The program will focus on one theme for a three-month period before moving on to the next. The focus for fall 2004 will be the "Immunization Programme".

All Ascott and Somerset brand serviced residences in China will be participating in the charity program. Ascott has three residences in Beijing, the 272-unit The Ascott Beijing, the 221-unit Somerset Grand Fortune Garden and 100-unit Luxury Serviced Residence. It also has three residences in Shanghai, the 248-unit The Ascott Pudong, 334-unit Somerset Grand Shanghai and 167-unit Somerset Xu Hui. In addition, it operates the 106-unit Somerset Harbour Court in Dalian and the 169-unit Somerset Olympic Tower in Tianjin.

Staff and residents are encouraged to donate on a monthly basis to support the children of Sanzhi Yang. At the reception desk of each Ascott and Somerset residence, there is a donation box. Guests and staff can make their donations and the reception staff will provide the donor with a certificate that shows the donor's name and donation amount. Ascott International Management, China will then transfer the funds on a regular basis to World Vision to support this project.

Every quarter, after the completion of each focused program, World Vision will document the impact the program is making in the lives of the children in Duan County.
