Ascott Appoints New Country GM in China

September 28, 2004 - The Ascott Group has appointed Mr. Loh Jen Yuh, Lucas as Country General Manager of its China operations.

Previously Ascott’s vice president for business development & asset management, Mr. Loh will oversee the operational performance of Ascott’s eight serviced residences in China. He will also spearhead the group’s business development in the country, where Ascott plans to grow from 1,600 to 4,000 serviced residence units by 2008.

Mr Cameron Ong, Ascott’s chief executive officer, said: "Since Jen Yuh joined the group in 2001, he has helped Ascott build its presence in North Asia, through identifying business opportunities and forging strategic alliances with various companies. He can now harness his in-depth knowledge of the China market to lead the China team to operational excellence."

Ascott is a leading international serviced residence chain with 13,800 serviced residence units in 40 cities in 17 countries. In China, Ascott operates the 272-unit The Ascott Beijing, 221-unit Somerset Grand Fortune Garden and 100-unit Luxury Serviced Residence in Beijing; 248-unit The Ascott Pudong, 334-unit Somerset Grand Shanghai, 167-unit Somerset Xu Hui in Shanghai; 106-unit Somerset Harbour Court in Dalian and 169-unit Somerset Olympic Tower in Tianjin.

Mr. Loh began his career in 1991 as a valuer at the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore. From 1996, he was an associate director for private equity investments at Temasek Holdings, involved in sourcing for investment opportunities, conducting feasibility evaluations, due diligence and post-acquisition asset management.

As Ascott’s vice president previously, Mr. Loh was responsible for helping to grow the group’s businesses in North Asia, Middle East and Australia.

Fluent in English and Chinese, Mr. Loh holds a Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma City University, US and a Bachelor of Science in estate management from the National University of Singapore.
